Because the questions above get answered badly on the internet, and a facility manager deserves better than a sales page pretending to be an answer. Where the industry publishes a number, we quote the document and link it. Where the answer depends on your building, on cycle counts, wind exposure, what is mounted near the opening, we say that instead of inventing a universal rule.
The sheets these pages draw on are published by DASMA, the Door & Access Systems Manufacturers’ Association: the trade body whose members build the doors, operators and sensing devices themselves. Roughly eighty of its technical sheets cover commercial and industrial doors. These guides quote the ones that answer the questions we hear most, and the high-cycle springs page carries the cycle-life numbers, since that is where that decision actually gets made.
